BMW Z10 – the rise of a supercar
BMW Z10 will be BMW’s new eco supercar to rival Audi’s R8. The model is also known as BMW Z10 ED, with ED designation meaning Efficient Dynamics.
BMW’s Efficient Dynamics is a program developed to reduce fuel consumption and emission levels while offering more power at the same time. BMW reports that over 1,000,000 of it’s vechicles sold worldwide are equipped with Efficent Dynamics.
The model will be based on BMW’s Z Vision Efficient Dynamics which was showcased in 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
The BMW Z10 will be a two-seater supercar featuring hybrid power, a reduced vehiche weight which is rumoured to be below 1,400 kg and a carbon fiber and aluminium body / frame. The model will be released in limited numbers and the pricing will be around $125,000.
The model is expected to be powered by an evolution of BMW’s current 3.0 liter engine which will be front mounted and will produce in excess of 400HP.
The BMW Z10 is expected to include technologies like wind directing elements through active spoilers, a venturi underbody, break regeneration energy and also an engine start / stop system.
A design sketch of the BMW Z10 ED has been offered in March 2009 by Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW’s chief designer who has replaced Chris Bangle on February 3rd, 2009. However, the model is expected to go into production in 2012 although sources claim that the Z10 is unlikely to appear before 2014 or even 2015.
